ABOUT THE PROJECT

The RINKO project focuses on the development and implementation of fundamental computer science knowledge in preschool education.

In today’s digital society, it is essential that even the youngest children acquire basic digital knowledge and competencies necessary for successful functioning in the modern world. The project addresses the development of tailored didactic approaches and materials to enable early introduction of digital competences in the preschool period.

Project Goals

  • Increase fundamental computer science knowledge among children in kindergartens

  • Develop and implement innovative pedagogical strategies for teaching fundamental computer science

  • Train educators for effective delivery of fundamental computer science

  • Create high-quality didactic units (i.e. pedagogical scenarios) and materials that will remain accessible after the project ends

  • Promote collaboration and exchange of good practices among educational institutions

What drives innovation is not technology, but the mindset that creates it.

Preschool children do not need screens for the development of fundamental computer science knowledge – they need opportunities to discover the principles of this field in a natural way, through play, exploration, testing, and using concrete materials from the world around them.

The RINKO project, in addition to guided activities, introduces didactic materials for independent play, exploration, and experimentation in preschool education. With constant access to these materials, children develop at their own pace an understanding of the fundamental concepts of computer science, recognize patterns, strengthen logical and algorithmic thinking, and through their own experiences discover how things work.

Many everyday kindergarten activities, such as sorting objects, recognizing patterns, following sequences, and problem-solving, naturally develop basic knowledge and skills connected to computer science. The RINKO project highlights these activities from a new perspective and encourages educators to consciously strengthen and upgrade them.
